Events in 2017

Samba Squad and friends and everyone from the whole world shows up with flasks, lanterns, flashlights, masks, costumes, snacks and noise makers. Samba Squad and Red Pepper Spectacle lead the parade of giant puppets and revelry to celebrate WINTER SOLSTICE, culminating in a huge bonfire in Alexander Park. Mad dancing and horns.

9:30: Afro-Cuban dance lesson with Sarita Leyva and Seis Manos Bata
10:30-12 SAMBA SQUAD with Special Guests

Parade ending at Trinity Commons Pub, 303 Augusta Ave., Kensington Market. RICK LAZAR leads Samba Squad in a parade through Kensington Market, ends at the pub, then leads the MONTUNO POLICE, Rick’s 7-piece global jazz septet in a soaring, exciting one-hour set.

Samba Squad will march from Roundhouse Park to Nathan Phillips Square, then play 2 sets. DJ Bongo Girl will play at Roundhouse Park 12:30-2PM. Also performing at Nathan Phillips Square: Raging Asian Women drummers, steel drums, Gadihongwas, Dance Troupe, and DJ.

Two summer nights in June, featuring more than 70 chefs, 20 local beverage vendors, and 35 one-of-a-kind food carts created by local designers. Samba Squad will play through-out the space each night.
