GRAND BATTERIA EXPRESS

Parade starts walking west from Ossington and Dundas West; parade ends at Lansdowne and Dundas.

Grand Bateria Express is a supergroup drumming ensemble that includes leaders and members of the Samba SquadEscola de SambaBatucada CariocaSamba EleguaT.Dot BatuMaracatu Mar Aberto, Bloco Loco and from Montreal: Terrato.

Rick Shadrach Lazar is the Music Director,  working in collaboration with  Maninho Costas and Alex Bordokas.
 Canada’s largest drumming ensemble launches the day at Dundas West Fest with a moving party playing four rhythms – Samba, Soca, Maracatu and Samba Reggae. Check out the videos to learn more about the rhythms. You can also learn the dance steps and join in the performance!

Global Carnival

Lula Music & Arts Centre in partnership with Massey Hall presents

In advance of Massey Hall’s presentation of globalFEST on the Road: Creole Carnival we’ve partnered with Lula Music & Arts Centre for a night of global carnival. Multi-cultural percussion posse Samba Squad features Mardi Gras-inspired horns and a sweet dose of urban funk, and leads a dance-till-you-drop tour of global Carnival grooves from Brazil, Trinidad, New Orleans and Cuba. Presented by Lula Music & Arts Centre and part of our Carnival celebrations.

Special guests, Sarita Leyva, Demetrios Petsalakis, Alexis Baro and the Kiss-Ass Brass.

Doors open at 7:30PM.

Dinner set at 8PM: Genevieve Marentette, vocalist, with Attila Freis on piano.

Samba Squad’s first set starts at 9:00 PM
